FERC Urges Adding Shale, Stranded Gas to Reserve Counts
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said last week that it was close to a decision on revamping its rules for reporting oil and natural gas reserves. Besides the question of whether proven and unproven reserves should be reported, the SEC is considering recommendations from FERC that a true estimate of natural gas reserves ought to include shale gas and so-called “stranded” natural gas.
Producers Have Mixed Reaction to Alaska Tax Overhaul to Support Gas Line
The big three North Slope producers — BP plc, ExxonMobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips — may only grudgingly approve of the proposed revamping of Alaska’s oil and natural gas tax system, but independents, including Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Pioneer Natural Resources Corp., are a lot more enthusiastic, executives said this week. The state legislature is conducting hearings on the proposal, which is tied into a tentative deal struck with Gov. Frank Murkowski’s office last month on the long-awaited gas pipeline project.
Anadarko’s Refocused Strategy Leads Revenues Higher, but Output Falls
Anadarko Petroleum Corp., having gone through a full year of revamping its business strategy, on Friday saw its revenues climb 10% on higher prices, but said that overall production volumes fell on asset sales over the past year. The company reported net income of $506 million ($2.12/share), compared with $405 million ($1.59) in 2Q2004.
