Raymond James: Fuel Switching Evident with Falling Gas Prices

When natural gas prices retreated from a peak in May 2003 there were signs that “switching-capable” industrial customers were returning to natural gas, according to Raymond James’ latest “Stat of the Week.” And, along with falling gas prices, the rise in price of emissions credits likely will give industrial consumers even more incentive to switch to gas.

All cash points retreated Wednesday within a range of about anickel to 20 cents, with most declines occupying the middle groundat 8-15 cents. Sources attributed the softening to the screen’sweakness a day earlier, a general dearth of cooling load, anddoubts about production risks from downgraded Tropical Storm Debby.

Screen Leads Cash Market to Moderate Downturn

As many had expected, the cash market retreated slightlyThursday from the early May aftermarket peaks posted Wednesday. Thedecline was moderate with most points off anywhere from a penny ortwo to just over a nickel.
