People — Kregg Olson, Dave Pursell

Apache Corp. Executive Vice President Kregg Olson, who oversees corporate reservoir engineering and has worked for the company for 26 years, is retiring effective Aug. 1. Senior Vice President Dave Pursell, now in charge of planning and market fundamentals, is to assume responsibility for reservoir engineering when Olson retires. Before joining Apache in early 2018, Pursell was managing director of investment banking for Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. He previously was head of macro research and a founder of Pickering Energy Partners Inc. and also has been director of upstream research at Simmons & Co. International. Pursell has a bachelor of science and a master of science in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University.

It’s Lights Out for Songs Nuclear Plant in Southern California

What has seemed inevitable for most of this year happened Friday with the announcement by Southern California Edison Co. (SCE) that it plans to retire its trouble-riddled San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (Songs) along the Southern California coast. Utility and state energy officials increasingly have been planning for the loss of the region’s major baseload power source for some time (see NGI, June 3).

Chesapeake Energy Announces Retirement of CEO McClendon

Aubrey K. McClendon, co-founder, CEO and president of Chesapeake Energy “has agreed to retire from the company on April 1, 2013,” according to a press release issued by the company late Tuesday. It said McClendon would continue to serve as CEO until a successor is appointed.

Tom O’Connor will retire as CEO of DCP Midstream but will remain chairman of the board for both DCP Midstream and DCP Midstream GP LLC, the general partner of DCP Midstream Partners, “until an appointed time in 2013.” Wouter van Kempen, formerly COO and president of DCP Midstream, will become CEO and president of DCP Midstream and CEO of the general partner. William Waldheim, president of the general partner, will join the general partner’s board. And, as had previously been announced, Mark Borer retired as CEO of the general partner on Dec. 31.
