Cheniere Applies For Sabine Pass LNG Export Permit

In a filing with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy, Cheniere Marketing Inc. has requested authorization to export on a spot market basis over a two year period up to 64 Bcf of liquefied natural gas (LNG) that has been imported and stored at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in southwest Louisiana.

ETP Seeks Rehearing, Stay of Hearing Order in Manipulation Case

Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP) and several affiliates, including Oasis Pipeline LP, last Tuesday requested expedited rehearing and a stay of FERC’s May order setting for hearing charges that they manipulated the physical natural gas prices at the Houston Ship Channel and Waha trading hub on various dates from December 2003 through December 2005 (see NGI, May 19).

Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP) and several affiliates, including Oasis Pipeline LP, Tuesday requested expedited rehearing and a stay of FERC’s order earlier this month setting for hearing charges that they manipulated the physical natural gas prices at the Houston Ship Channel and Waha trading hub on various dates from December 2003 through December 2005 (see Daily GPI, May 16).

Idaho PUC Suspends Avista Rate Increase Date

Idaho regulators announced Friday they were suspending a requested effective date for Spokane, WA-based Avista Utilities’ proposed natural gas and electricity rate increases for its Idaho customers. The Idaho Public Utilities Commission (PUC) set May 9 as the deadline for intervenors filing in the case in which Avista is seeking overall increases of 15.4-16.5% for electricity and no more than 3.3% for gas.

Amaranth Advisors LLC has requested an additional month to respond to a FERC show-cause order that accuses the failed hedge fund of manipulating the price of physical natural gas transactions, while former Amaranth trader Brian Hunter continues to challenge the regulatory agency’s jurisdiction in the case.
