Court Rejects Sierra Club’s Plea to Block Keystone Pipe

In a major victory for pipelines, a federal court in western Oklahoma has denied a request by the Sierra Club and two other organizations to enjoin the construction of the Cushing, OK-to-Port Arthur, TX, portion of the Keystone Pipeline, which was slated to begin Monday (Aug. 6). It further rejected an attack on the legality of a water-crossing permit needed in pipeline construction.

CPUC Rejects Allegations Sempra Utilities Manipulated Past Gas Market

With the stark animosity that has come to mark the split among its five members, the hardened majority at the California Public Utilities Commission Thursday rejected an outgoing commissioner’s allegations that a state-conducted probe proved Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. utility conspired to drive up wholesale natural gas prices at the Arizona border in the 2000-2001 western energy crisis.

CPUC Draft Decision Rejects Sempra Utility Rate Settlements

Pending rate case settlements for Sempra Energy’s two California utilities were rejected last month in draft decisions by both the administrative law judge and assigned commissioner at the California Public Utilities Commission. At stake is a proposed $1.5 billion rate base for Southern California Gas Co. and combined electric-gas rates of nearly another billion dollars for San Diego Gas and Electric Co.
