Nexen topped the rankings of gas purchasers/marketers in a new customer satisfaction survey based on 300 interviews with gas producers by Missouri-based Mastiogale. Other top buyers that exceeded the industry benchmark were BP, ConocoPhillips, Shell Energy Trading and Corpus Christi-based marketer Shoreline Gas.

ConocoPhillips, U.S. Energy Services Top Mastio’s Marketer Customer Satisfaction Ranking

ConocoPhillips topped Mastio & Co.’s eighth annual gas marketer customer satisfaction rankings among the major marketing companies, while U.S. Energy Services was the top regional/niche marketer. The ranking was based on the results of up to 800 interviews with customers, including other marketers, utilities, pipeline companies, producers and power generators.

For the fourth year in a row, London-based BP plc topped the rankings for the leading oil and natural gas companies and also was a leader in reserves replacement, according to a study by Prudential Equity Group. Prudential studied eight majors’ year-end reports between 1999 and 2003, analyzing production income, earnings quality, reserve replacement ratios, finding and development costs, future net cash flow and the return on exploration and production (E&P) activities.

Oneok, Texican Top Mastio’s Marketer Customer Satisfaction Rankings

Based on a survey of 850 local gas distributors, industrial companies, power companies, producers and other marketers, Oneok, ConocoPhillips, BP, Sempra and Coral Energy were the top five companies in Mastio & Co.’s customer satisfaction ranking of major gas marketers, but the smaller regional marketers played a much more prominent role last year than in previous years, the St. Joseph, MO-based research firm said.

Mirant Sells Large Chunk of Canadian Aggregation, Storage Contracts to Cargill

Casting off the contracts that once catapulted it to the top of the gas marketer rankings, Mirant Corp. on Thursday said it will sell a significant portion of its Canadian gas aggregator, transportation and storage agreements to food processing giant Cargill Ltd. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but financially struggling Mirant said it would reduce its collateral obligations by about $200 million.
