The Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects to publish the first natural gas production estimates from its new survey of 280 domestic gas producers (about 90% of total U.S. production) in May, said John Wood, director of reserves and production in the EIA’s Dallas office. Wood said the May report will estimate domestic gas production for January and February 2005 and that by the end of September EIA will be estimating production on a two-month delay.

Starting off on the wrong foot, Republican and Democratic congressional conferees directed to come up with a comprehensive energy bill came to the end of their first week of conferring deeply divided over how to proceed in the second and third weeks.

A dismissed Dynegy Corp. trader was indicted last week on charges that she reported fake natural gas trades on three separate occasions in late 2000 and early 2001 to an energy publication for use in calculating its index price for gas. She was the second trader to be indicted by a federal grand jury in Houston for bogus trades.
