NJ Utilities Propose Pilot Programs to Change Incentives, Encourage Conservation
New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), which serves more than 462,000 gas customers in the state, and South Jersey Gas (SJG), which serves another 317, 000, are proposing pilot programs to encourage energy conservation. The companies propose a fundamental change in focus and method of compensation so they can promote the use of less energy rather than more, aligning the distributors’ interests with the customers’ need to conserve and cut their energy bills.
Xcel Energy Says Natural Gas Prices to Go Up In May
Despite proposing an increase in May 2005 natural gas commodity prices, Xcel Energy said Friday that gas bill amounts will drop due to a decrease in use of the commodity. According to the company, projected bills would drop next month by 33% for typical residential customers and by 29% for typical small-business customers.
Chevron Gains Mexican Environmental Approval for Baja LNG Terminal
ChevronTexaco Corp., which is proposing to build an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving and regasification terminal about eight miles off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, has gained approval for the project from Semarnat, Mexico’s environmental agency. FERC Proposes Survey to Gauge Reaction to Voluntary Reporting Guidelines
FERC is proposing to survey up to 300 natural gas and power traders twice — this October and next March — to determine if they are following guidelines outlined in the Commission’s July policy statement on reporting price information on energy trades to industry publications. The Commission said the survey would determine whether “further steps” were required to ensure the accuracy, reliability and transparency of price indices (PL03-3).
