A leading California lobbying group for solar energy has launched a promotion of solar water heating, saying it could help reduce natural gas prices and cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. And separately in San Diego, Sempra Energy’s utility unveiled a 10,000-square-foot photovoltaic (PV) panel at a regional science center complex.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. last Tuesday announced the pending retirement of CFO James R. Larson and the promotion of two executives within its North American exploration and production operations. Larson, a 25-year Anadarko veteran, said he will retire by the end of the year.

Tulsa-based ONEOK Inc. has promoted Ed Farrell, president of Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. (ONGC) to senior vice president administration. The promotion takes effect Sept. 1. Farrell, 58, has been with ONEOK since 1995. Sam Combs, now western region vice president of ONGC, will become president of ONGC, and Combs will be succeeded by Dan Walker, now vice president of operations for ONGC and Kansas Gas Service Co. Roger Mitchell, manager of corporate communications and advertising for ONEOK, also was promoted to eastern region vice president of ONGC.

Joining a sports marketing push that is picking up momentumamong energy companies nationally, Sempra Energy has inked acombination energy services and promotional deal with the operatorsof a new basketball-hockey arena being built in downtown LosAngeles. Sempra’s CEO indicated this was just the first of a seriesof “major branding initiatives” the newly formed San Diego-basedutility holding company will be rolling out over the next 12months.
