As of Friday, Northwest was requiring shippers with primarycorridor rights southbound through Kemmerer (WY) Station to flow upto 25% of their contract demand from receipt points north ofKemmerer. The percentage under a “must-flow OFO” was increased from15% previously (see Daily GPI, Nov. 20).

KMPT, Calpine Sign 10-Year Transport Agreement

Kinder Morgan Texas Pipeline (KMTP) has clinched a deal to become the primary natural gas transporter for Calpine in the Texas Gulf Coast and Ship Channel markets under a 10-year, natural gas transportation and storage agreement. The deal gives Calpine access to up to 375,000 MMBtu/d of firm natural gas transportation service for a decade beginning Jan. 1, 2001.

ExxonMobil Corp. has selected mySAP.com as the primary backbonefor the company’s global business infrastructure project, accordingto the German firm, SAP AG, which bills itself as the world’sleading provider of inter-enterprise software solutions. The systemwill be designed to consolidate systems for the recently mergedExxon and Mobil companies, while improving business processes for100,000 employees worldwide. “We have been customers of SAP sincethe late 1980s, and we are excited to continue to build upon ourinvestment in SAP solutions to meet our business objectives ofmaintaining best-in-class business performance for our BusinessLines,” said Jerry Kohlenberger, president of the ExxonMobil GlobalServices Co. “By consolidating and upgrading all systems tomySAP.com, we will tighten synergies around the globe andstreamline business processes.”

Hot weather appeared to be the primary driver of gas pricesMonday. When you’ve got it, as regions from the Rockies westwarddid, quotes went up by about a nickel at many points; when youdon’t have it, as the relatively balmy Midwest and Northeast marketareas didn’t, prices were flat to down as much as 7 cents.

Survey: Energy Traders Using More Information

The primary factor contributing to energy trading room successis information, which comes before risk management and workplacecultural factors, according to a Saladin survey of energy traders.Traders told Saladin they are using more information and analysisthan they did a year ago. Saladin predicted a year ago thatInternet usage would outpace traders’ predictions, which theinformation provider found to be the case with its latest survey.Also as predicted, there is an increased focus on risk managementand integrated systems. Three-quarters of traders reportedincreased use of the Internet. More than 20% of trading roomsimplemented new risk management systems over the last year, andnearly a third of those surveyed noted advances in sophistication;in implementation of value at risk; and in systems, controls andprocedures.
