Magnum Hunter to Drill Utica Test Wells
Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. intends to drill at least four Utica Shale test wells in Ohio this year, the Houston-based independent exploration and production company said Tuesday.

Bill Ritter briefed California’s oil and natural gas officials about how Colorado’s drilling rules that encompass hydraulic fracturing stipulations were able to satisfy environmental concerns — an issue California faces as legislators consider whether to establish a fracking moratorium or not (see Shale Daily, June 28).

The board of directors of Range Resources Corp. has approved several management changes in preparation for the transition of CEO John Pinkerton to the role of executive chairman on Jan. 1. Current COO Jeff Ventura previously was named the new CEO. In addition, the board has promoted Ray Walker to senior vice president and COO. Walker is to oversee all of Range’s operations and would continue to lead the company’s environmental, safety, regulatory and best practices programs. Alan Farquharson has been promoted to senior vice president of reservoir engineering and economics. Farquharson is to oversee the corporate reservoir engineering as well as the long-range planning function. Ralph Tijerina has been promoted to vice president of safety and environmental. Mark Whitley, promoted to senior vice president of the Northern Appalachia and Southwest Division, is to continue to oversee operations of the Marcellus Shale along with Range activities in Texas and New Mexico.

Southern Union Co. has begun distributing proxy statements in preparation for a special meeting of shareholders Dec. 9 to vote on the company’s proposed acquisition by Energy Transfer Equity LP (ETE) (see Daily GPI, Aug. 8; July 20). Shareholders of record as of Oct. 11 may vote in person at the meeting in New York City or by proxy. Approval of the merger agreement requires a simple majority of Southern Union’s outstanding shares of common stock. Shareholders who directly or indirectly own 13.4% of the company’s stock already have voted in favor of the agreement. Southern Union’s board of directors also has unanimously recommended the merger’s approval.
Pennsylvania Marcellus Passes Yearly 1,000-Well Mark
Operators drilled more than 1,000 wells into the Pennsylvania Marcellus Shale through the end of July, a milestone not reached until mid-September in 2010 and not at all in 2009.

In preparation for the upcoming winter season, NiSource Gas Transmission & Storage (NGT&S) unit Columbia Gulf Transmission is holding an open season for capacity to deliver gas to Texas Eastern Transmission LP in St. Landry Parish, LA, the pipeline said. NGT&S is considering modifying or constructing new assets to facilitate the delivery of up to 176,000 Dth/d to Texas Eastern, with an anticipated in-service date of Nov. 1. Columbia Gulf is soliciting binding offers for firm contracts sourced from receipt points on the Columbia Gulf mainline near Delhi, LA, and delivered to the Texas Eastern St. Landry interconnect.
