The fireworks that fill the air at the beginning of July may be just a prelude to the fiery temperatures that are forecast to bathe most of the western states and a portion of the Northeast next month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center reported in its monthly outlook Thursday. The Midwest, meanwhile, may escape the hellish heat and could see below-normal temperatures.

FERC Backs PG&E Pipe’s Action against Credit Risky Marketer, to a Point
In what may be the prelude to a key ruling involving pipeline credit issues, FERC said PG&E Transmission, Northwest Corp. (PG&E-GTN) was correct last fall when it determined that Denver, CO-based marketer, e prime Inc., was no longer creditworthy under the pipeline’s tariff guidelines, and threatened to suspend service to the company. However, the agency deferred ruling on whether PG&E-GTN had the authority to demand from e prime a 12-months pre-payment of service to continue as a shipper.
Price Flatness Seen as Prelude to More Softness
Although the cash market’s downslide looked like it wasflattening out Wednesday in most instances except for California,sources tended to regard it as merely a resting place before moresoftness sets in. A majority of points ranged from moderatelysofter to a few cents higher, with the largest gains being realizedin the chilling Northeast. The Southern California border plungedand the PG&E citygate fell by about 40 cents.
