MI Electric Choice Continues Bid Process

Detroit Edison reported that its unique bid-phased electricchoice program in Michigan continues to receive a positive responsefrom new participants using the system. The fifth and final bidphase of the program showed that demand for capacity on itsdistribution system again exceeded the amount of space available,as the company received over 70 requests.

Futures Find Support at $3.80, Finish on Positive Note

With little in the way of fresh news on either the technical orfundamental front, natural gas prices took the path of leastresistance yesterday, slipping lower but settling above key supportat $3.80. After plumbing its lowest point in two months at $3.79shortly after 2 p.m. (EST), the August contract finished stronglyto settle at $3.86, down 2.4 cents on the day.

Pacific Gas & Electric had a systemwide Stage 1high-inventory OFO in effect Wednesday, with penalties of 25cents/dth for positive daily imbalances exceeding a 1% tolerance.The OFO is being reduced to a customer-specific one effectivetoday. As of Wednesday PG&E was projecting that linepack wouldremain slightly above its target operating limit through Friday,then jump to much above its target Saturday.

Coastal Touts Benefits of Gulfstream System

As it continues to assuage concerned landowners and perhaps keepa positive image in front of regulators, Houston’s Coastal Corp.yesterday touted the benefits of its proposed Gulfstream NaturalGas System LLC affiliate, saying that the Florida pipeline willpump $1.2 billion into the Sunshine state’s economy, most of thatcoming during the construction phase.

Storage, Chart Gap Gives Futures Bulls a Reason

Impressed with their handiwork following Tuesday’s positivemarket momentum, Nymex bulls were on the offensive again yesterdayas they loaded up on long positions ahead of yesterday’s storagereport. After opening at Tuesday’s high of $2.77, the Aprilcontract rumbled higher yesterday morning only to tumble back intothe $2.70s in the afternoon. The prompt month closed up 4.3 centsat $2.794.
