Halliburton announced that Dick Cheney has resumed the role ofchairman and will also continue in his current position as CEO.Joining Halliburton in 1995 as CEO, Cheney served as chairman andCEO from 1996 until the merger between Halliburton and DresserIndustries in September 1998. Cheney will succeed William Bradfordas chairman. Bradford will retire at the end of January after threedecades of dedicated service to Dresser Industries and mostrecently Halliburton.

Mitchellwill continue to report directly to Enogex President Roger A.Farrell and will ultimately be responsible for the marketing andsale of gas transportation, gas liquids, and related services.

Foster’s successor as CEO ofHouston-based Newfield Exploration Co. effective Feb. 15 whenFoster vacates the position as part of his retirement plans.Foster, a principal founder of Newfield, will continue as chairman.Newfield is an independent oil and gas company active in the Gulfof Mexico, along the U.S. Gulf Coast and off Australia.

Futures Traders Jockey for Position Ahead of Floyd

For the second day in a row the futures market probed to eitherside of unchanged yesterday as local traders attempted to influencethe market-first higher, then lower-in choppy, range-bound trading.But for the second day in a row they received little or no helpfrom other market participants, and thus were forced to cover intheir positions before the close. That enabled the October contractto drift quietly lower Monday, closing down 2 cents to $2.781.Estimated volume of 74,785 was well below Friday’s impressive114,000 figure.

FERC Chairman James J. Hoecker has named Susan G Pollonais ashis advisor on gas and oil issues, replacing Patricia W. Jagtiani,who has accepted a position with the Natural Gas SupplyAssociation. Pollonais has served as a public utility specialist inthe Office of Pipeline Regulations Division of Litigation since1997. From 1993 to 1997 she was a gas regulatory consultant andproject manager for Northern States Power.

NRG Builds Power Giant in Hungry Northeast

While power demand hit record levels throughout the Northeastand power prices rocketed to $850/MWh yesterday, NRG Energycontinued to position itself as a major generator in thepower-hungry region. The subsidiary of Northern States Power landeda major power generation deal with Connecticut Light & Power ofHartford. NRG is snatching up 2,235 MW of generating capacity fromCL&P for $460 million.

Nuevo Nabs Some CA Assets From Texaco

Nuevo Energy, a Houston, TX-based exploration and productioncompany, bolstered its California position Tuesday by paying Texaco$61 million for interests in six oil and gas fields. Includingthese acquisitions, 87% of Nuevo’s total reserves and productionwill be based in California.

Daniel L. Larcamp was appointed director of the Office ofMarkets, Tariffs and Rates at the Federal Energy RegulatoryCommission (FERC). The office and position were created as part ofinternal restructuring at the Commission under the FERC Firstprogram. Larcamp has served as senior counsel and policy advisor toFERC Chairman James. J. Hoecker on electric power issues sinceAugust.
