TransCanada’s CEO Resigns, Reorganization Planned

After five years as head of one of Canada’s largest energy companies, George Watson submitted his resignation to TransCanada’s board of directors last week citing “personal reasons.” The resignation, which becomes effective July 31, comes just weeks before the company plans to announce a structural shake-up designed to support its strategic direction. No details of the reorganization are being divulged at this time, a company spokesman said.

Alamo Lake No.1turbine will be down today and Tuesday, reducing Havasu Crossovercapacity by 100 MMcf/d. The No.2 turbine will also be downWednesday for a total Havasu cut of 150 MMcf/d. To coincide withthis outage and minimize impact on San Juan Basin supplies, theNavajo Station’s 2C turbine will be down for maintenance Wednesday,reducing North Mainline capacity by 155 MMcf/d.

New pipeline development and expansions could add 16 Bcf/d ofcapacity to the national transmission network over the next twoyears (1999-2000) at an estimated cost of about $9.5 billion,according to a report by the Energy Information Administration.While all of the proposed projects may not be built, totalexpenditures are expected to far exceed the $5.1 billion investedduring the last major period of pipeline development in 1992-1993.
