Consolidated Natural Gas Co. followed through on its plan toexit wholesale energy marketing yesterday by selling its gasmarketing operations, including supply, sales, storage andtransportation agreements, to Sempra Energy for $48 million.

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) saidmember companies plan to complete their Year 2000 (Y2K) computeranalysis, modification and testing by October and will havecontingencies in place should the new millennium bring problems.

Peoples Energy and Dominion Energy announced they plan todevelop and operate a 300 MW gas-fired electric generating peakingfacility near Elwood, IL, 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The $90million project is expected to be completed in time to providepower to the grid in summer 1999.

Enron Corp. is jumping into the California electric power marketwith a plan to develop a 500-MW gas-fired, merchant power plant inPittsburg, CA. Although the figures are not their analysis, EnronCapital and Trade Resources officials said the state needs some6,000 MW of new generating capacity by 2002.

As part of a major reorganization plan, the American PetroleumInstitute (API) says it plans to establish a “natural gascomponent” aimed at attracting medium-to-small sized companies asnew members and at retaining current API members.

Amoco Oil, Enterprise Products, Exxon Chemical and WilliamsField Services announced plans to form a joint venture to build andoperate a 60,000 b/d natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionationfacility near Baton Rouge, LA. Construction has begun, and start-upis expected next March. The joint venture is to be called BatonRouge Fractionators LLC. Enterprise will operate the plant andmanage fractionation services. Amoco will process its PascagoulaGas Plant volumes at the facility. Exxon will process a portion ofits Louisiana area NGLs there, and Williams will contract toprocess its Mobile Bay Gas Plant volumes at the facility.
