Most Cold-Related Pipe Constraints Fading; Freeze-Offs Reported

With warming trends developing, several pipelines either had already canceled holiday restrictions that had been in effect over the long holiday weekend due to cold weather or were in the process of doing so. However, a few constraints were still in place Monday. Wellhead freeze-offs were reported in a couple of areas but did not affect deliveries.

While many pipelines had holiday weekend restrictions in place to deal with extra-cold weather, it was a different situation for Florida Gas Transmission. Saying market area temperatures were forecasted to be mild and linepack was higher, FGT issued an Underage Alert Day notice Thursday with 20% tolerance for positive daily imbalances.

CEO Hal Kvisle stressed the stability of existing Western Canadian gas production and the promise of new supply from the Mackenzie Delta and Alaska in announcing the completion of its purchase of Gas Transmission Northwest Corp. (GTNC) from National Energy & Gas Transmission Inc. (NEGT) for US$1.7 billion, including US$500 million of assumed debt.
