Wind Sector Sets New 5-Year Action Plan, Has 300 GWh Vision for 2030

With a new resurgence of market, technology and public policy activity permeating the industry, stakeholders in the growing wind power sector gathered early in June in Los Angeles at the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) annual meeting, and everything about the sessions was larger than in previous years — from the participants and exhibitors numbering more than 7,000, 400 suppliers, including names from the broader energy industry, and a fresh ambitious vision for wind’s heightened role in a global climate change-driven alternative energy world.

Futures Weaken Following $6.80 Test, 107 Bcf Storage Withdrawal

With cold weather permeating the East, it was no surprise that the Energy Information Administration’s natural gas storage report for the week ended Jan. 25 revealed a 107 Bcf withdrawal, far greater than the prior week’s 88 Bcf pull. However, the withdrawal was on the low end of the range of industry estimates and slightly less than the 109 Bcf five-year average and the 115 Bcf pull for the same week last year.

NW Natural, Portland General Undeterred by Enron Bankruptcy

Although tainted by the infamous “E”-word now permeating American news and political-speak, Northwest Natural Gas Corp. is pressing ahead on its plan to buy Enron Corp.’s utility subsidiary Portland General Electric Co. (PGE) for $1.8 billion. The two Portland, OR-based companies plan to form a new combination utility powerhouse by the fourth quarter this year.
