Penn Virginia Builds Marcellus Shale Leasehold

Penn Virginia Corp. (PVA) on Friday agreed to pay an estimated $19.5 million in cash to add nearly 10,000 net acres to its Marcellus Shale leasehold. The producer also will gain an overriding royalty stake on a portion of the new acreage.

Penn Virginia Acquires Western Oklahoma Gas Processing Facilities

Penn Virginia Resource Partners LP (PVR) said late Monday it would be able to increase its natural gas processing capabilities in western Oklahoma after acquiring processing and residue pipeline facilities from Atlas Pipeline Partners LP (APL) for $22.6 million in cash.

PPL Corp. Selling Gas Distribution Business

PPL Corp. will conduct a sales process for its natural gas distribution business, PPL Gas Utilities Corp., and propane business, Penn Fuel Propane, the company said last week. These businesses represented about 1% of PPL’s overall earnings from ongoing operations in 2006.

Gas restructuring filings made last week with the PennsylvaniaPublic Utility Commission by Penn Fuel Gas and PECO Energy Co. haveset the stage for only the fourth state in the country to providestatewide access to the retail gas market. Out of the 22 stateswith gas utilities employing pilot programs, only New Mexico, WestVirginia and New York allow gas customers statewide to choose theirgas suppliers so far. Pennsylvania regulators now say statewideunbundling will occur by July.
