Union Gas announced the availability of 2 Bcf of peak storage atthe Dawn Market Hub. The storage permits summer 1999 injection and1999-2000 winter withdrawal. The storage capacity will be awardedbased on a bidding process. All bids are due by 1 p.m. EST onFriday, May 21. The high bidders will be awarded the capacity by 3p.m. EST that same day. The storage hub has six pipelineinterconnects and easy access to 15 pipeline and distributioncompanies, Union Gas said. The complex has a working capacity of130 Bcf and can deliver 2 Bcf/d for customers.
Gulf Prices Sag After Screen Retreats From Peak
May prices remained firm in morning business Thursday but weregetting softer in the afternoon after the June futures screenstarted retreating from a dalliance around the $2.40 level, a GulfCoast producer reported. However, a marketer saw little movementeither way for May numbers in western markets. And another tradersaid intra-Alberta prices “are getting wild,” reporting themstraddling the C$2.80 level Thursday.
Nicor, Dynegy Begin Constructing Power Plant
Nicor and Dynegy Inc. have begun construction on a 250 MWgas-fired, peak-demand power generation facility in the Village ofEast Dundee, IL. The two companies said they plan to market theelectricity generated at the Rocky Road Power facility in thewholesale market to investor-owned utilities, electric cooperativesand municipalities when commercial operations get underway thissummer.
Dynegy Teams with Nicor to Build Chicago Plant
Dynegy and Nicor announced plans to jointly build a gas-fired,peak demand power generation facility in East Dundee, IL, in aneffort to provide relief for the Midwest’s “capacity shortfalls.”The 250 MW facility, called the Rocky Road Power Plant, is expectedto begin construction during the first quarter of 1999, and beginservice this summer. It is located 43 miles northwest of Chicago.The partnership, which is an even 50% split between the twocompanies, still seeks approval from local authorities andregulatory officials before it can start building. Nicor said theplant plans to use 1-2 Bcf per year.
