Kinder Pipeline Link to Mexico on Track

Although renamed, Kinder Morgan’s El Paso Natural Gas Co. (EPNG) unit is on track to put in service next year a 60-mile, 36-inch diameter natural gas pipeline in Arizona, connecting the EPNG southern system near Tucson to the Mexican border under the new name of the Sierrita Lateral Project (formerly Sasabe).

Gasco’s Updated Uinta Basin Plans Get BLM Nod

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved Gasco Energy Inc.’s proposal to develop nearly 1,300 natural gas wells over 15 years in Utah’s Uinta Basin, the agency said Monday.

Southern LNG Applies for Elba Island Export License

Southern LNG Co., a subsidiary of El Paso Corp., has thrown its hat into the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export ring, applying to the Department of Energy (DOE) for authorization to export up to 0.5 Bcf/d from its Elba Island terminal in Savannah, GA, to countries that have free trade agreements (FTA) with the United States, according to an application filed with DOE. The company is seeking a 25-year export license.

KMI Pipes For Sale Expected to Be Remade for Value

Among assets slated to be sold by Kinder Morgan Inc. (KMI) to win antitrust clearance for its acquisition of El Paso Energy Corp., the “only meaningful” buys are the 50% stake in the Rockies Express Pipeline (REX) and KMI’s Kinder Morgan Interstate Gas Transmission (KMIGT), an industry analyst said Friday. And it’s not because of what they are now, but what they could become.

Transportation Notes

Although Ruby Pipeline operator El Paso Corp. had indicated Tuesday that a systemwide shutdown might be ended as early as Wednesday, the in-service date has been shifted to sometime between Saturday and next Wednesday. Ruby said a full assessment of the scope of necessary repairs has been completed, and the longest lead item is for replacement of the 42-inch block valve. The restoration of service depends on the time required to secure and install the replacement valve.

Shale Called ‘Source of Uncertainty’ for U.S. Gas Market

Shale gas production is projected to increase to the point where it becomes the dominant domestic gas supply over the next two decades, but it brings with it the “greatest source of uncertainty” facing North American gas markets, according to the Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions.
