Partial Incentive Rewards Granted in California

California’s major private-sector utilities won a victory of sorts from regulators Thursday, getting partial incentive rewards, totaling $82 million, for their energy efficiency programs. The four investor-owned utilities (IOU) had solicited more from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which denied part of the joint request.

Return of Frigid Weather Boosts Most Points

It was not surprising when prices resumed climbing at nearly all points Friday following a partial interruption Thursday of last week’s overall cash market strength (see Daily GPI, Jan. 11). After all, cold fronts were moving into the South and Northeast Friday, and a new siege of frigid weather close to rivaling the one following New Year’s Day would be under way in most of the U.S. and Canada by the end of the weekend.

BP Pipe Hearings Unlikely to Have Spill-Over Effect on Gas Lines

The BP America oil pipeline problem in Alaska that caused the partial shutdown of the largest oil field in the U.S. will put pipeline safety front and center when Congress returns from its hiatus next week, but it’s not expected to have a spill-over effect on natural gas pipelines, said an official with a major interstate gas pipeline group.
