Closing In on Colorado ‘Spill’ Source; Still No Major Impact

Colorado state energy officials Thursday added new information surrounding a small hydrocarbon spill in the Parachute Creek area of the Western Slope. On Tuesday investigators focused on a valve box for a pipeline carrying natural gas liquids (NGL) away from a Williams Co. unit’s gas processing plant.

Williams to Pay Record Fine for Water Contamination

A subsidiary of Williams Cos. has agreed to pay Colorado officials more than $400,000 for contaminating the water supply of a spring near Parachute, CO, in the Piceance Basin.

Williams’ Northwest Pipeline has received authorization from FERC to place its 30-inch Parachute Lateral Pipeline project in the capacity-constrained Piceance Basin of Colorado into service. The 37.6-mile pipeline and related facilities will provide 450,000 Dth/d from Williams’ production facilities in Garfield County, CO, to the Greasewood Hub. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the pipeline project last year (see NGI, Aug. 21, 2006). Affiliate Williams Power also executed a precedent agreement to provide secure transportation service on the lateral for a 15-year term.

April Futures Plummet 57 Cents on Spring Warmth

The gas futures rocket ran out of fuel and apparently had no parachute on Tuesday. April went into free-fall, opening the day down 22.5 cents, and then rapidly sailing straight through the $6 support level and several major trendlines to a hard landing at $5.944, down a grand total of 57.1 cents for the day.
