Northeast Rise Stands Out From Otherwise Sedate Market

While most of the market relaxed Wednesday with flat to slightlyhigher price performance, the Northeast was battening down thehatches in preparation for a rare visitor of late: honest togoodness winter weather like they used to have in the old days. Asa result, delivered prices in the Northeast shot higher bydouble-digit amounts, led by a spike of more than half a dollar toaround $3.20 for Transco Zone 6-NYC.

Tropical Wave Arouses Stir in Otherwise Quiet Market

Tuesday’s trading appeared to bear out one Daily GPI source’spredictions Monday of generally stagnant pricing for the rest ofthis week. Eastern numbers formed almost a mirror image of theprevious day’s pattern. Instead of being flat to a little higher,they were flat to a little lower. And prices in the West, which hadbeen busy recovering lost weekend ground Monday, joined inTuesday’s overall flat-to-lower trend with the exception of smallgains at the PG&E citygate and a couple of Rockies locations.

Sumas Quotes Exceed $3; Otherwise Price Rally Halted

Sumas had the distinction Tuesday of being the first point tosurpass $3 pricing in the current winter heating season, althoughPG&E citygates had gotten as high as $2.92 in the second weekof November (see Daily GPI, Nov. 11). In super-volatile quotes thatranged from the $2.20 area to as high as $3.40 (one source said heheard a $3.50 deal got done), Sumas soared far above an overallmarket that had turned stagnant since Monday’s strong rebound.
