New York Regulators to Complete Fracking Review by July 1

New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officials have been ordered to visit the site of an April well blowout in northeast Pennsylvania and to complete a supplemental generic environmental impact statement (SGEIS) on hydraulic fracturing (hydrofracking) by July 1. Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be at the site as well.

PG&E to ‘Show Cause’ on Alleged Pipe Violations

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) last week unanimously (5-0) ordered Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) to face a show-cause hearing today (March 28) over what the regulators unequivocally have determined is the utility’s lack of compliance in ongoing state and federal investigations of the Sept. 9 natural gas transmission pipeline rupture in San Bruno, CA. Separately, PG&E and the CPUC staff have worked out a preliminary stipulated resolution to correct the situation on an accelerated basis.

Pennsylvania Halts Chesapeake Well Pad Construction

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has ordered Chesapeake Energy to stop work on a natural gas drilling well pad in rural Potter County for failing to implement required erosion and sediment controls, DEP said Wednesday.

Talisman, DEP Investigate Tioga County Well Control Incident

Talisman Energy Inc. temporarily shut down all hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations in North America while it investigated a well control incident that occurred Jan. 17 at a Talisman natural gas well on state forest land in Tioga County, PA, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said Tuesday. DEP is conducting a separate investigation of the incident.

Magnum Hunter Ramps Up in West Virginia

The first well drilled by Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. into the northwestern West Virginia portion of the Marcellus Shale tested at an initial production (IP) rate of 7.0 MMcfe/d and was producing as of Dec. 22 into the recently completed Eureka Hunter Pipeline system, the company said.
