Permitting for the $335 millionfacility is under way, the company said. The plant is expected tobegin commercial operation in late 2001.

Calpine Corp. announced it has bought the development rights tobuild, own and operate a 500 MW natural gas-fired cogen facility inPittsburg, CA, from Enron Corp. The Los Medanos Energy Center(formerly called the Pittsburg District Energy Facility) recentlywas licensed by the California Energy Commission after acomprehensive year-long environmental and technical review.Construction of the $350 million facility is underway.

Calpine Plans PA Generation for 2001

Calpine Corp. of San Jose, CA, acquired the rights to build, ownand operate a 545-MW gas-fired power plant in Ontelaunee Townshipin eastern Pennsylvania. The proposed Ontelaunee Energy Center willserve users throughout the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM)power pool. Permitting for the proposed $285 million facility isnow underway, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2000.The plant, which is scheduled to start production in late 2001,will burn 85,000 to 90,000 MMBtu of gas per day.

Vector Gets FERC OK; TriState Needs Changes

FERC shot down one major Midwest-to-Northeast pipeline projectyesterday but gave another competing project a final green light.The $447 million Vector Pipeline emerged victorious, receivingFERC’s final approval and a presidential permit in a draft order,while the $400 million TriState Pipeline was sent back to thedrawing board to redesign the pipeline-lease portion of itsproposal.
