Reliability of Supply Tops Customers’ Wish List

BP, Conoco, Oneok, Reliant and Sempra topped Mastio & Co. 2002 gas marketer customer satisfaction ranking. The companies that showed the greatest improvement from 2001, Mastio said, were BP, Duke Energy, ExxonMobil and Sempra. However, of the 20 marketers in the 2001 customer satisfaction index, only 13 remained in 2002 and several of those have announced they are exiting the marketing business, Mastio noted in its statement on the ranking.

Industry Brief

ONEOK Gas Transportation, L.L.C. (OGT), and Duke Energy NorthAmerica (DENA) reported the execution of long term agreements forOGT to supply natural gas transportation to DENA’s naturalgas-fired McClain energy facility located in Newcastle, OK. Termsof the deal were not released. OGT will provide firm transportationof gas up to 85,000 Mcf/d to the 500 MW power plant. The McClainplant is expected to become operational and begin supplyingelectricity to regional markets next summer. OGT said industrysources expect as many as 20 merchant power facilities are beingreviewed for construction in the state.

Southern Union to Merge with PA Enterprises

While it continues to tangle with Oneok in an effort to acquireSouthwest Gas, Southern Union Co. agreed to merge with PennsylvaniaEnterprises Inc. (PEI). PEI’s Pennsylvania-based operations willbecome the fourth major autonomous division of Southern Union,complementing its Texas, Missouri and Florida operations.
