CME Assures Customers Ahead of Swap Dealer Rule Enactment

Looking to allay concerns from customers that some of its new product offerings will force a change in how they trade, CME Group issued an open letter last week that more fully explains how the exchange will operate once Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act regulations on swap dealer registrations going into effect Oct. 12. The exchange also explained in more depth the previously announced rollout of a broad suite of new natural gas and power contracts that will be listed as futures on CME Globex, the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) trading floor and CME ClearPort, and will be available for trading on CME Direct, a platform offering side-by-side trading and straight-through processing and clearing of exchange-listed and over the counter (OTC) energy markets.

Cheniere Energy Partners LP said it expects to net about $60 million in public offerings, some of which would be used to fund development costs of its proposed addition of liquefaction capacity to the Sabine Pass LNG (liquefied natural gas) import terminal in Cameron Parish, LA. However, in order to advance the project still needs contracted customers.

Nymex Unveils 3-2-1 Plus Energy Index Futures Contract

Adding to a busy week for the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) that included new product offerings (see Daily GPI, Dec. 21) and accusations of merger interference (see Daily GPI, Dec. 22), as well as grumblings surrounding its scaled-down 2007 holiday schedule (see Daily GPI, Dec.21), the exchange reported Thursday that it will launch its first energy index futures contract, 3-2-1 Plus as part of the Nymex iPort suite of index futures contracts beginning on Jan. 21 for trade date Jan. 22.
