The spigot has opened on a new crude oil pipeline to transport Permian Basin supplies from a connection point near San Antonio, TX, down to NuStar Energy LP’s Corpus Christi terminal.

A second capacity expansion to move more Permian Basin crude oil to multiple markets has been launched by NuStar Energy Inc.

San Antonio-based NuStar Energy LP has agreed to acquire Permian Basin crude oil gatherer and transporter Navigator Energy Services LLC for $1.475 billion. Already active in the Eagle Ford Shale, NuStar now would have a long-sought presence in the Permian, management said Wednesday.

Eagle Ford Shale crude oil producers now have a new option for transportation as NuStar Energy LP has completed construction of its private marine loading dock at its North Beach Terminal in Corpus Christi, TX, and has its first ship at the dock to be loaded with crude oil.

Magellan Midstream Partners LP plans to construct a new pipeline origin point at Barnhart, TX, to accept crude oil shipments on the partnership’s Longhorn pipeline. NuStar Logistics has reactivated and plans to operate its 60-mile Pettus South Pipeline to transport Eagle Ford crude oil to Corpus Christi, TX, part of its agreement with Koch Pipeline Co. LP, a subsidiary of Koch Industries Inc. The move will add 30,000 b/d of capacity to the Koch system, which totals about 540 miles in South Texas. In May 2010 Koch completed projects to expand its crude oil and gas condensates capacity by 25,000 b/d, then added another 50,000 b/d of crude and condensate capacity through an agreement with Arrowhead Pipeline LP in September 2010.

Velocity Midstream Partners has secured long-term commitments from Shell Western E&P for transportation and terminal services for light oil and condensate production from Shell’s position of more than 100,000 acres at the Harrison Ranch (also known as the Piloncillo Ranch) in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas.
