North Dakota’s Bakken Shale-driven oil and gas production continued to rise in May from April, according to the state’s Department of Mineral Resources. Preliminary results indicated growth in nearly all of 17 counties — particularly Dunn, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams, where most of the drilling to date has occurred.

May crude oil had fallen $1.53 to $102.67/bbl.
ExxonMobil Calls Chesapeake Purchase ‘Strategic’
Chesapeake Energy Corp. last week clinched a trio of natural gas and oil transactions in unconventional U.S. fields that together would give the company total proceeds of $2.6 billion in cash. Among them was the sale to ExxonMobil Corp. of 58,400 acres in the Texoma Woodford Shale for $590 million in cash.
Northeast And Southwest Advance, But Midwest Softens; Futures Drop
On balance the cash market averaged out to the loss side of the trading ledger Monday, but double-digit strength was noted at northeastern points, and deliveries into southern California points also registered gains. Futures markets headed south as revised weather forecasts called for an extended period of warmth throughout the eastern two-thirds of the country. At the end of futures trading April had fallen 12.9 cents to $2.355 and May had slid 12.8 cents to $2.472. April crude oil added two cents to $106.72/bbl.
Springville Gathering Pipeline Begins Service in Pennsylvania
Williams Partners LP (WPZ) said Thursday it has started up the Springville natural gas gathering pipeline, one of the building blocks in its plan to secure large-scale infrastructure in the capacity-constrained Marcellus Shale. Springville initially would help deliver 300 MMcf/d to Northeast markets.
The Gas Just Keeps On Coming; January Collapses
January natural gas plunged Wednesday as traders attempted to factor in an ever-increasing storage surplus and noted continued mild weather projections. At the close January had tumbled 14.3 cents to $3.136 and February had fallen 13.4 cents to $3.187. January crude oil imploded $5.19 to $94.95/bbl.
Fund Selling, Weak Technicals Pressure Futures; January Falls
January natural gas swan-dived lower Friday as traders noted a continuing deterioration in both the fundamental and technical dimensions to the market. At the close January had fallen 14.0 cents to $3.317 and February had given up 13.3 cents to $3.353. January crude oil added $1.07 to $99.41/bbl.
