A property developer that purchased the former Ormet Corp. aluminum smelting plant straddling Ohio and West Virginia for conversion into a large-scale port and central service terminal for the oil and natural gas industry is now marketing the site to manufacturers and power plant developers.

As the Nov. 1 official start of winter approached, two new outlets for Appalachian gas were given the go-ahead Thursday to start-up service for Northeastern deliveries.

A Siena College Research Institute poll released Tuesday shows New Yorkers are still almost evenly split on the issue of hydraulic fracturing (fracking), but it contains some surprising numbers concerning where the practice is generating support and opposition.

Enbridge Inc. said it is conducting a nonbinding open season for gas storage and transportation services in the Midwest through its subsidiaries Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Niagara Gas Transmission Ltd. Enbridge said the open season will allow the company to assess development of incremental gas storage capacity/services at Enbridge Gas Distribution’s Tecumseh facility in southwestern Ontario near the Dawn gas trading hub and developing incremental transportation capacity on the Corunna-Tecumseh-Dawn pathway. Enbridge said it has a range of gas storage and transportation development options, “which can be put into place in a timely basis to take advantage of market opportunities such as U.S. shale gas and gas-fired generation.” The open season closes March 26. Effective with Timely Cycle nominations Thursday, Dominion will cancel a limitation of secondary or interruptible capacity at Niagara Mohawk East Gate.

With prominently plunging exceptions such as Dominion, Niagara, some Northeast citygates and San Juan-Blanco, most of the cash market continued to drive higher Tuesday while residents of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic began to dig out from under a Presidents Day blizzard that set snowfall records. Advances ranged from about a dime to about 30 cents, with most points measuring their gains in the 20s.

Due to maintenance at Station 230C, Tennessee will be restricting through Secondary services at the Niagara River meter beginning with the 9 a.m. Timely Cycle Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday’s gas day. Only Primary nominations will be accepted for these two days.
