Murkowski Meets with Canadian Premiers about Gas Line
Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski met with the premiers of three Canadian provinces Monday to discuss the Alaska gas pipeline project, which ultimately will have to run through the Yukon, British Columbia and Alberta. Murkowski said all three premiers “committed to support good faith negotiations between their governments, North Slope oil producers and Canadian pipeline companies to ensure the most expeditious development of the project.”

Responding to a request from The Utility Reform Network (TURN), a utility consumer advocate, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) earlier this month kicked off an investigation of Pacific Gas and Electric Co.’s billing and collection practices that could ultimately result in refunds or fines for the utility. The five-member CPUC ordered the probe at its last business meeting.

SemGroup Buys Central Alberta Midstream Gathering and Processing Network from BP, Chevron
SemCanada, L.P., a subsidiary of the privately-held SemGroup L.P., announced Thursday it signed a definitive purchase and sale agreement to buy Central Alberta Midstream (CAMS), the largest licensed sour gas processor in Alberta, from BP Canada Energy and Chevron Canada Resources (CCR), Canadian subsidiary of ChevronTexaco Corp.
Sempra Lashes Back at Consumer Groups Over LNG Plans
Sempra Energy Thursday came out swinging in response to a challenge of its LNG plans by two consumer groups, The Utility Reform Network (TURN) and Rayepayers for Affordable Clean Energy (RACE). The groups are disputing a California Public Utilities Commission decision to allow Sempra’s two Southern California utilities to establish a joint receipt point for liquefied natural gas (LNG) or other supplies flowing north from Mexico (see NGI, Sept. 6, Sept. 13).
