Dynegy Negotiating SEC Settlement on Project Alpha, Says Report

Dynegy Inc. apparently is attempting to negotiate a settlement of an investigation of its accounting practices by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. Sources told the Journal that lawyers for Dynegy have been discussing a resolution with the SEC, but it was not clear how much progress had been made, or whether Dynegy also was attempting to resolve a criminal inquiry by the Department of Justice.

Seeking to pull itself out of the Enron quagmire, Arthur Andersen reportedly is attempting to negotiate a settlement with Enron shareholders, unsecured creditors and employees in Enron’s 401(k) retirement plan, according to a story this morning in the Wall Street Journal.

More than 60% (49,638,497) of CG common shares had beentendered in response to NiSource’s $68/share offer ($5.7 billion)as of last Friday and NiSource extended the deadline of the tenderoffer to Oct. 15.

PG&E, California Producers Negotiate Gathering Sale

In a deal that could be the first of its kind in the nation,Pacific Gas and Electric is locked in serious negotiations withnorthern California natural gas producers to sell them itsextensive utility gas gathering system linked to in-state wells,most of which are in the dry gas fields of the greater SacramentoValley. The deal being sought, which is expected to take the betterpart of 1998 to gain final regulatory approvals, is an offshoot ofthe omnibus Gas Accord unbundled intrastate transmission andstorage services that start March 1. The parties will not put adollar value on the facilities involved in the negotiations, but itis conservatively estimated at tens-if not hundreds-of millions ofdollars, involving hundreds of miles of low- and medium-pressurepipelines and related gathering facilities linked to more than 100producers.
