Chesapeake Caves to Shareholders; Utica Acreage For Sale

Ahead of the annual shareholder meeting on Friday, Chesapeake Energy Corp. acquiesced to demands of major shareholder groups and Carl Icahn, who now holds 7.8% of the stock, and said four existing independent directors would resign from the board. The company also has put up for sale 337,481 net acres in its prized Utica/Point Pleasant Shale, which would give it less than one million acres in the play.

Earthquakes, Arkansas Tremor Study Continue

As state regulators continue to study a possible connection between drilling waste disposal wells in Arkansas’s Fayetteville Shale and a flurry of minor earthquakes in the area, the tremors continue unabated, including a 4.7-magnitude earthquake Sunday night and at least 19 measurable earthquakes on Monday.

Many Averages Below $2 for Holiday Weekend

As anticipated, prices fell at nearly all points Friday, with a large majority of them averaging less than $2. Naturally, the extra demand loss associated with a holiday weekend and the previous day’s dip of 20.7 cents by October futures played roles in the major softness. But already-meager cooling load was dwindling ever further.
