Stepped-Up Monitoring Ordered at Louisiana Sinkhole

Louisiana’s commissioner of conservation has ordered Texas Brine LLC to abate the safety and environmental threats from its failed brine cavern on the west side of the Napoleonville Salt Dome in Assumption Parish where a sinkhole has been threatening residents and infrastructure since August.

Louisiana Targeting Natural Gas Found in Sinkhole Area

Louisiana officials last Friday called for the capture or venting of natural gas in the area of the compromised Napoleonville Salt Dome in South Louisiana. The salt dome is in the area of a mysterious sinkhole that developed earlier this summer, threatening some natural gas pipelines in the area.

Enterprise Products Partners LP last week upped its stake in K/D/S Promix LLC to 50%, increasing its ownership in a fractionator in Napoleonville, LA, with the capacity to process up to 145,000 bbl/d of mixed natural gas liquids (NGLs) from processing plants on the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast.

Transportation Notes

Gulf South has lifted a force majeure notice for its Magnolia Storage Facility near Napoleonville, LA. The notice took effect last Saturday after the facility’s two compressor units went down. One of the units has been restored to a compression level sufficient to handle all firm third-party obligations, Gulf South said. Efforts to bring that unit to full capacity and to fully commission the remaining idle compressor are continuing.
