FERC Commissioner Nora Mead Brownell has named three top aides to her personal staff: Mary C. Morton, James A. Pederson and Jamie L. Simler.

FERC Chairman Pat Wood III has named four top aides to his staff: Lawrence D. Crocker III, Robert E. Gramlich, Alison Silverstein and Andrew K. Soto.

The board of directors of Williams named Steven J. Malcolm president and COO effective immediately. Formerly president and CEO of Williams Energy Services and executive vice president of Williams, Malcolm also was elected to the board. Keith E. Bailey, 59, will relinquish his responsibilities as president of the company and will remain chairman and CEO until his expected retirement at the next annual meeting of shareholders on May 17, 2002. Bailey was elected president in 1992 and chairman in 1994.

The $6 billion NiSource-Columbia merger is on its way down the homestretch, with only the Securities and Exchange Commission’s approvalleft in its path on the way to its predicted end of the yearcompletion date (see Daily GPI, July27). Gray Davis last week named one of his closeadvisers and newest regulators, attorney Loretta Lynch, to bepresident of the five-member California Public UtilitiesCommission, which oversees the restructuring of the energyindustries, along with telecommunications, water, trucking andpublic transportation.
