Secure Energy Inc. has made a firm transportation service agreement with Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America (NGPL) to ship up to 67,000 MMBtu/d of natural gas on the NGPL pipeline beginning Aug. 1, 2011 from Secure’s Decatur, IL, Gasification Plant, the company said.

After breaking above the $13/MMBtu price level on Tuesday, July natural gas futures continued to explore the upside throughout Wednesday. The prompt-month contract climbed an astounding 25.8 cents to finish Wednesday’s regular session at $13.210, backed by low storage injection expectations for the week ended June 13, a $2.67/bbl bump in July crude futures due to Nigerian strike fears and a “couple of distinct waves” traveling in the tropical Atlantic and the Caribbean.

Prices skyrocketed to as high as $19.50/MMBtu Wednesday in the Northeast as low temperatures ranging from single digits to the 20s were forecast to keep the region chilled out Thursday. But with warming trends due in the South and Midwest while the West essentially maintains its status quo of seasonably cold to mild conditions, the market outside the Northeast saw mixed price movement that was mostly close to flat and biased toward the downside.

7 Cents Is New Record Low; Most Points Up Strongly
It’s not exactly free, but at 7 cents/MMBtu, the new all-time low cash quote reported Tuesday to NGI’s price survey for Rockies gas into Kern River, it’s very close to giving it away. Close behind was another record-breaking 8-cent quote for Cheyenne Hub. This follows on a 15-cent package that was sold on CIG as recently as last week (see Daily GPI, Sept. 5), which tied NGI’s all-time low cash quote established by both Kern River and Opal in April 2002 (the record also was tied in June of this year).
