Indiana Sees Coal Gasification as Gas Price Hedge

Indiana utilities buying gas on behalf of customers could have a new option in homemade substitute natural gas procured from the state. On Tuesday Gov. Mitch Daniels signed legislation allowing Indiana to buy and resell gas from a planned coal gasification plant in the southern part of the state.

Plans Unveiled for $1.5B Coal Gasification Plant in Indiana

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels recently unveiled plans to build a $1.5 billion coal gasification plant in the Hoosier state, which would be the first in the country to make pipeline quality natural gas from eastern coal. Several sites are being considered and the governor said all of them are in the southwestern corner of the state.
