Flat or close-to-it pricing was almost universal in Thursday’s market, and for a change almost-imperceptible firmness prevailed instead of the mild declines that had dominated trading in the previous two days. The previous day’s screen uptick of 4.9 cents was the chief impetus for arresting the overall slide as forecasts continued to hint that the end of winter was nigh.

Northeast Spikes Belie Overall Stall of Price Advance
Prices continued to spike in the Northeast Wednesday, with a few other regional citygates joining Transco Zone 6-New York in jumps of about a dollar or more and Texas Eastern M-3 skyrocketing by more than $2. However, this week’s bullishness showed signs of stalling, with Gulf Coast numbers generally only a few cents both up and down from flat and markets in the Midcontinent/Midwest and West mostly on the moderately softer side.

Due to forecasts of mild Southeast weather, Southern Natural Gas cited projections of high storage injection requirements during the weekend in announcing that an OFO Type 6 for long imbalances would be in effect on its system Saturday until further notice. Tiered imbalance penalties will be assessed to shippers exceeding allocated deliveries by 2% or more (those with long imbalances of less than 2% or 200 Dth/d will not be penalized).
