Devon Energy Corp more than doubled its rig count in the U.S. onshore between September and December and may nearly double it again by year’s end to accelerate unconventional activity, management said Wednesday.

Continental Resources Inc. released results of a record well Wednesday drilled in the overpressured window of its acreage in the Sooner Trend of the Anadarko Basin, mostly in Canadian and Kingfisher counties, OK (aka, the STACK).

Though often overshadowed by its Permian cousin to the south, the Anadarko Basin, with its stacked reservoirs, is generating plenty of buzz in its own right heading into 2017.

Devon Energy Corp.’s experiments in Oklahoma’s stacked reservoirs continue to fulfill expectations, with a third Meramec spacing pilot completed and 10 more pilots planned through the end of the year.

Encouraged by “outstanding” STACK well results, Continental Resources on Thursday increased its 2016 production guidance by 5,000 boe/d to 210,000-220,00 boe/d and expects to exit the year with production at 195,000-205,000 boe/d.
