The U.S. Coast Guard and Maritime Administration have published a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal offshore Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico proposed by the Norwegian-based firm TORP Technology. The agencies have scheduled a public hearing on the measure for July 25 in Mobile.

CA LNG Proponents Unsure of New State Maritime Council

After two weeks, none of California’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) proponents or regulators are clear on what, if any, impact a new California Maritime Security Council might have on the review process for up to four proposed LNG receiving terminals along the Southern California coast. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created the council with an executive order issued Oct. 12, and so far no one among the LNG crowd has commented much.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Maritime Administration has issued a finding of no significant environmental impact to McMoRan Exploration Co. for its amended Main Pass Energy Hub (MPEH) liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which would be located 16 miles offshore Louisiana. In addition, McMoRan also received a letter from the Department of Natural Resources for the state of Louisiana on Sept. 21, indicating that the proposed facility is consistent with the Louisiana Coastal Resources Program.
