Within hours of Marc Spitzer being sworn in as one of three new FERC commissioners, Arizona’s Gov. Janet Napolitano was handed a hot potato in naming Spitzer’s interim replacement on the state regulatory commission for the rest of the year. November’s election will produce a permanent new commissioner as Spitzer’s second elected term on the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) was set to expire Dec. 31.

Former Arizona regulator Marc Spitzer was sworn in as a new FERC commissioner on Friday, and ex-Alliant Energy executive Philip Moeller was sworn in Monday, according to an agency spokesman.

The Senate on Friday approved by unanimous consent three new members to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission — Philip D. Moeller, Jon Wellinghoff and Marc Spitzer. With the addition of the new commissioners, it will be the first time in nearly six years — except for a brief three-month period — that all five FERC seats have been filled.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee by unanimous voice vote Wednesday approved the nomination of Marc Spitzer for a seat on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The favorable vote places him in queue with two other FERC nominees who are awaiting confirmation by the full Senate.
