Cash prices overall lurched higher Wednesday as weather forecasts continued to call for bone-chilling winds across major Midwest and eastern market centers. Without the multi-dollar gains posted at a handful of Northeast points, the average national gain was 8 cents, but with those gains factored in, the average rose to 21 cents.

Shale Prices Fall Along with Overall Market

Even with three days of flat to much stronger pricing Monday through Wednesday, only Marcellus Shale numbers in northeast Pennsylvania were able to eke out a small gain during the week ending Thursday. Other plays fell 6-12 cents during that period.

Futures Back Above $10; Sources See Potential for New High

After a mostly quiet session of straddling the psychological $10 price level, May natural gas futures on Monday lurched higher to close at $10.053, up 15.2 cents from Friday’s close. The renewed push has some market experts seeing even higher prices this time around.
