Only two days after announcing completion of repairs at Olga Compressor Station in southeast Louisiana (see Daily GPI, March 30), Sonat said Wednesday it had experienced a new unscheduled outage at Olga that again requires a reduction in interruptible receipt (A-1 and/or IT) capacity on the 26-inch Main Pass Area line until further notice.

Transportation Notes

Tennessee has scheduled about 12 hours of pigging activity March 8 on part of its Blue Water System offshore Louisiana. Specifically, Line #523M-100 will be pigged from Vermilion 245 to Ship Shoal 198. Only a Shell Oil meter (#012435) will be shut in during the work, but other meters in the area likely will experience higher than normal pressures, Tennessee said.

Wiser Oil Acquires Louisiana Acreage for Exploration and Production

Increasing its reserve base one acquisition at a time, the Wiser Oil Co. said Wednesday that it has entered into a long-term agreement with a private Dallas-based minerals company to explore and develop approximately 141,000 acres in western Calcasieu and Beauregard Parishes, LA.

McMoRan Inks $200 Million Exploration Agreement, Targets GOM Shelf Deep Gas

Expanding its Gulf of Mexico exploration efforts sizably, McMoRan Exploration Co. has entered into a three to five year exploration agreement with an undisclosed private exploration and production company, which has committed to spend a minimum of $200 million of exploration funds.

With more than 67 Bcf of proposed working storage capacity, Louisiana tops the list of states and provinces in North America with the most proposed storage, followed closely by Texas with 65.3 Bcf, Alabama with 62.5 Bcf and Mississippi with 55.6 Bcf, according to a new gas storage and liquefied natural gas (LNG) database and map produced by Intelligence Press Inc. Despite the big numbers, however, storage developers say it isn’t exactly a boom time for the storage sector.

Florida Gas Transmission has begun unscheduled maintenance on one of the two compressor units at its Transco St. Helena interconnect in South Louisiana, requiring a reduction of capacity at the point to 15,000 MMBtu/d starting Wednesday. Current estimates indicate that the unit will be down for seven to eight days, FGT said.

Billy Tauzin of Louisiana, said Friday that a deal was struck on disputed issues in the tax package that allows them to make the text of the bill public on Saturday, and sets the stage for the measure to possibly clear both houses before lawmakers adjourn for the session this week.

Sempra Talks to 5 Potential LNG Suppliers

Taking the view that its approved liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals awaiting construction in Louisiana and North Baja can access gas supplies literally anywhere in the world, Sempra Energy has talked with “everyone in the world that has stranded supplies and would like to look at the United States as a marketplace,” according to Don Felsinger, who heads Sempra’s global business unit.
