Cameron LNG Expansion Gets DOE Export Approval

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has authorized additional non-free trade agreement exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG terminal, whose first phase is under construction in Louisiana.

FERC OKs Elba Island LNG Export Terminal, Pipeline Project

FERC has approved Kinder Morgan Inc.’s (KMI) plan to add liquefaction and export capability to the existing Elba Island LNG Terminal near Savannah, GA, as well as make modifications to existing pipelines in support of the project.

Plains All American Pipeline LP unit Pine Prairie Energy Center LLC has entered into a 10-year firm storage service agreement with Cheniere Energy Partners LP’s Sabine Pass Liquefaction LLC. Pine Prairie will provide 8 Bcf of firm natural gas storage capacity to Cheniere beginning in 2018 to serve the needs of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction facility in Louisiana. “With this new agreement, we will be able to more effectively manage the load swings as we construct and operate our liquefaction trains at Sabine Pass,” said Corey Grindal, Cheniere vice president of supply.

IGU: 2015 Global LNG Demand Highest Ever But Prices Down Everywhere

Global trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) last year reached 244.8 million tonnes (mt), an increase of 4.7 mt from 2014 and eclipsing the previous record of 241.5 mt set in 2011. However, all LNG price markers fell, from an average of $15.60/MMBtu in 2014 to $9.77MMBtu in 2015. And in the low-price environment, the bloom is off the Henry Hub rose.

Brief — Elba Island LNG

Kinder Morgan Inc.units Elba Liquefaction Co. LLC and Southern LNG Co. LLC have awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup of the Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project to IHI E&C International Corp. The approximately $2 billion project would consist of 10 trains connected with the existing regasification terminal at Elba Island near Savannah, GA, which would be modified to receive LNG from the new liquefaction facilities (see Daily GPI,Feb. 8). Modifications to the existing Elba facilities would include compression for vapor handling and new pumps for loading the LNG on vessels for export. Royal Dutch Shell plc is the customer for 100% of the liquefaction capacity and ship-loading services being developed by the project. When completed, Elba will have the capability to handle 2.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG.

Cameron LNG Files at FERC For Trains 4, 5

Cameron LNG LLC has applied at FERC to expand the export capability of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Hackberry, LA, by 9.97 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 24.92 mtpa through the addition of liquefaction trains four and five and a fifth LNG storage tank.
