Natural gas futures bears were licking their chops as some near-term weather forecasts continued to look warmer with each passing day. On Tuesday the February contract — which terminates on Wednesday — declined by 23.7 cents to close at $5.485. The March contract fell by 23.3 cents to close at $5.430.

Bottom Debated Following Futures Close at Two-Week High
Natural gas futures bulls were licking their lips Friday as the March contract showed some real strength on the day. Despite the temporary warm-up forecasted for much of the country, prompt-month futures pushed higher on the day to close at $4.774, up 13.2 cents from Thursday’s finish and 35.7 cents higher than the previous week’s close.

Natural gas bulls were licking their lips following the long holiday weekend as weather forecasters Monday were calling for a significant dose of cold Canadian air to sweep across the country from west to east this week. Opening higher following the overnight trading Sunday, December natural gas futures on Monday put in a high of $8.025 before settling at $7.998, up 28 cents on the day.
