House Bill 822 passed through the state House ofRepresentatives with a 164-0 vote on Tuesday, and after a briefstay in the hands of the Senate Finance Committee, it is on its wayto the Senate floor for approval.

Seeking emergency relief for Texas oil and gas producerssuffering from low commodity prices, the three-member TexasRailroad Commission (TRC) last week voted to propose statelegislation to suspend severance tax payments when the price foroil and gas drops below $15/barrel of oil or $1.50/Mcf of naturalgas as determined by the Comptroller of Public Accounts

Three senators from leading energy-producing states unveiled amajor legislative plan Tuesday aimed at shoring up the domestic oiland gas industry in the face of depressed crude oil prices. Themeasure, titled the National Oil and Gas Security Enhancement Plan,seeks to provide producers with regulatory, leasing and tax relief.
