Pioneer Natural Resources Co. has signed an agreement with Sinochem Petroleum USA LLC, a U.S. subsidiary of China’s Sinochem Group, to sell 40% of its interest in 207,000 net acres leased by the Pioneer in the horizontal Wolfcamp Shale in the southern portion of the Spraberry Trend Area Field for $1.7 billion.

Encore Energy Inc., acting in its capacity as lease advisor to mineral rights owners in eastern Ohio’s portion of the Utica Shale, announced Wednesday that it was currently shopping multiple tracts of “add-on” acreage to operators in the play.

Dallas-based Mesa Energy Holdings Inc. has leased 1,525 net acres in Garfield and Major counties, OK, and has closed on a farmout agreement with Twenty/Twenty Oil & Gas Inc. covering 1,720 net acres that are held by production.

Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. Wednesday said it plans to test for the first time the potential of the deep Pearsall Shale formation in South Texas after agreeing to pay $2.35 million to buy an additional 1,885 net mineral acres in Atascosa County.

Range Resources Corp. has drilled the first unconventional natural gas well in Crawford County, PA, and is reportedly planning to drill more of them targeting the Utica Shale in the near future.

Cabot Oil & Gas has struck an agreement with a U.S. unit of Osaka Gas Co. Ltd. for the sale of a 35% nonoperated working interest in the Pearsall Shale in 50,000 net acres leased by the company in Atascosa, Frio, La Salle and Zavala counties in Texas for $250 million.

Although its profits fell while production grew, Southwestern Energy Co. said its drilling programs in both the Fayetteville and Marcellus shales remain profitable. But the Houston-based company also plans to divert $50 million in midstream capital toward ventures in the Brown Dense formation and the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin.

Aside from those that have leased lands for development, Pennsylvania school districts do not seem to be benefiting much financially from Marcellus Shale activity, according to a recent report from Pennsylvania State University.
