Questar Plans WY Storage Project, Pipeline Hub

Questar Pipeline launched a major pipeline expansion initiative Tuesday in conjunction with plans announced recently to move forward with the eastern portion of its Southern Trails Pipeline to California (see Daily GPI, April 10) and in response to strong demand for capacity on several other downstream pipelines, particularly Kern River. Questar also said it is moving forward with plans to build the Rocky Mountain region’s first high deliverability salt cavern storage operation, and will attempt to turn its existing pipeline system into a market hub.

ANR Launches Westleg Open Season in WI

El Paso Corp. subsidiary, ANR Pipeline Co., launched a non-binding open season to determine customer interest in its Westleg expansion project, which would provide additional looping and compression along its existing gas pipeline system in South-Central Wisconsin. The announcement comes a month-and-a-half after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave the go-ahead to the rival 149-mile Guardian pipeline project (see Daily GPI, March 15).

EMK3 reported that after almost three months of operation it has launched the natural gas component of its online energy marketplace, making it the first marketplace on the block to offer domestic buyers and sellers of both oil and natural gas the ability to electronically acquire and sell production at the source, i.e., from the wellhead.

Shell Launches Bid for Denver’s Barrett Resources

Royal Dutch Shell Group yesterday launched a bid to buy naturalgas-rich independent Barrett Resources Corp. of Denver for $2.2billion in cash and assumed debt, which would give Shell animmediate presence in the Rocky Mountains. While Barrett’s board ofdirectors indicated it might fight the offer, Shell promised tobegin a hostile takeover if it is rejected.
