Enron’s International COO Resigns

The vice chairman and COO of Enron Corp.’s international divisionhas resigned, two months after the chair and CEO of the division wasapparently forced out. Joseph W. Sutton will leave Enron Nov. 1 topursue other opportunities, said the company. His boss, Rebecca Mark,resigned in August (see Daily GPI, Aug. 28).

Joseph W. Sutton has been promoted to vice chairman of Enron.Sutton will join Enron’s office of the chairman, which includesChairman and CEO Kenneth L. Lay and President and COO Jeffrey K.Skilling. Sutton, previously chairman and CEO of Enron’sinternational business unit, will help oversee the day-to-dayoperations of Enron’s business units.

PG&E Vice President Kearney Dies

Joseph P. Kearney, 52, a leading figure in the energy servicesindustry responsible for building the nation’s largest independentelectric generation producer, died of an apparent heart attackwhile in Washington, D.C., Oct. 3 to attend a charity dinner forthe Lombardi Cancer Research Foundation.

PG&E Corp. has selected Joseph P. Kearney, currently seniorvice president of PG&E Corp. and president and CEO of its U.S.Generating Company (USGen), to assume the additional responsibilityof president and CEO of PG&E Gas Transmission. Kearney, 52,succeeds Jack F. Jenkins-Stark who is leaving the company to pursueother interests.
